Best Ways to Use Propel’s Media Database

Our database at Propel gives you access to over 1 million journalists, 50 million Twitter influencers, and 3 billion (yes, billion) articles. Here are some of the best ways to narrow your search, so that you can pitch the right people the right stories.

Don’t know who to pitch? Use the article search.

If you are looking to discover journalists writing about niche topics, the article search is the way to go. Once you enter your specific topic/keyword, further filter your search by time period, publication, or location.

In each card, you can view engagement stats - including number of shares and even Facebook reactions to the article, to give you an idea of readers’ overall opinions.

From here, you can directly add journalists to existing media lists or create a new one from scratch.

‍

Leveraging Twitter Influencers

It is well known that “influencers” are the ~wave of the future~. Propel’s Twitter influencer search allows you to easily discover prominent influencers, journalists, and bloggers. In each profile, view recent tweets and hashtags to get a sense of their hot topics.

By clicking on a certain hashtag, you will see the frequency and the sentiment, indicating the overall attitude of the tweets featuring that hashtag.

Just like for journalist profiles, the Twitter Influencer search provides pitching preferences based on data across all Propel users.

These insights are designed to help increase your response rates, by revealing the best topics, days, and times to pitch.

Journalist Search

Let’s say you know who you want to pitch, but don’t have access to their contact information; simply enter their name in the Journalist search of the Discover tab, and voila - you now have access to their email address, phone number, LinkedIn, and Twitter profiles. Check the box in the upper right corner to add them to one of your media lists.

If you don’t necessarily have a specific contact in mind, but have a general idea of their profession, outlet, or location - the journalist search is your go-to. Business journalists in NYC? Health and wellness bloggers in London? Telecom writers in D.C?

You have access to millions of contacts at your fingertips.

Bringing It All Together

Propel offers a variety of different methods to help you find the right people to pitch based on your specific niche. By filtering through recent articles and hashtags, you can know exactly what journalists are currently writing and thinking about. As we head into the new year, we encourage you to explore these different features for yourself and make the most of your Propel experience!
